Who are we?We’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about who we are, what we do, what our goals and objectives are, and where it all began! Back in November 2004, Terry Hickmott (age 47 at the time) was diagnosed with a particular type of leukaemia – Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. Being the bread winner for himself and wife Debbie Hickmott, this was a huge shock; having to give up work to receive daily chemotherapy meant life was about to get a whole lot more difficult. Terry & Debbie soon came to realise that this illness doesn’t just affect the body, but the whole lifestyle of both sufferers and their families. In this particular case, Terry was given a brand new drug called ‘Glivec’, which he still is taking now three years later. Whilst there is no cure for CML, ‘Glivec’ is keeping the disease in its initial stages – however his body could begin to reject the drug at any time. We run various fundraising events throughout the year, such as supermarket collections, hair & beauty evenings and even paranormal investigations! As we are volunteers, we receive no money ourselves from the fundraising we do - every penny is donated to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Our principal branch objectives are as follows:
